he 10 Best Queer Movies 2019 at Roze Filmdagen, the 11-days Amsterdam LGBTQ+ Film Festival. Like the last two years, we teamed up with festival director and LGBTQ+ movie guru Werner Borkes with whom we chose 10 films and documentaries drag queens, intersex topics, about being trans in sports and more you should put on your movie list for this year’s event. The 22nd edition of the Dutch LGBTQ+ film festival features the world premiere ‘Galore’ about our beloved drag queen Lady Galore. In our list of the “best queer movies 2019” includes contributions from the UK, the USA, the Netherlands as well as Italy, Kenya, and Scotland.

AMSTERDAM: This is our list of the 15 Best Gay Movies 2019 selected for the Amsterdam LGBTQ+ Film Festival Roze Filmdagen bringing LGBTQ+ cinema to the Dutch capital city Amsterdam.

The Boutique Hotel Sleep-Inn Box 5 Nijmegen – is a charming Boutique Hotel right in the city centre of Nijmegen. The helpful and heartwarming gay couple Jos and Stephan are the owners of this almost 100 years old Dutch house. The accommodation is a well-made combination of elegant design furniture as a chic luxurious interior in modern style with comfortable beds. We felt home in this old mansion immediately.

A Gay Couple City Weekend Utrecht – Utrecht is the new Amsterdam. Or is it just the little sister of the Dutch capital? Putting this topic on the table on a bar in Utrecht starts an intense controversy about pros, cons, the local pride and the way of living in both cities of the Netherlands. The gay couple spent a Gay City Weekend Utrecht to show you their favorite places on their gay travel: eat and drink at Gys and The Village Coffee, get the best view over the city on the Dom Toren, where to wandering around for hip shops with the Puha Shopping Route and how to go back in time on track with the Spoorwegmuseum.

Review of the Legendary Trunks Exhibition Amsterdam – The name Louis Vuitton stands for luxury and design and is known as one of the world’s most valuable luxury brands. Nevertheless, everything started with high-quality travel equipment and luggage. Those wooden framed travel trunks were the beginning of the well-known LV – brand dating back to the 1850s. Our Photos Videos (Gay) Pride Week Amsterdam 2017 – The team of this year’s Gay Pride Week of the Dutch capital had a difficult task to solve. Why? Well, since 2016 was the year of the Euro Pride in Amsterdam with a whole month full of activities, events, and more than 560.000 guests from all over the world, the expectations to organize an impressive LGBTQ+ Pride Event were set high. You wanna know how we rate the (Gay) Pride Amsterdam 2017 in our home city? We loved it. And we are talking not only about the world famous Amsterdam Canal Parade.

Gay Couple Biking Tour Fort Island Pampus – Amsterdam during summer time is the best time of the year to explore the city but also the beautiful natural surroundings. But how are the Dutch people doing it? Of course, by bike! This weekend we decided to bike back in the past to learn more about Dutch history and the defense systems around Amsterdam, which have been declared as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The First Utrecht Canal Gay Pride 2017 The Netherlands – It is time. Time for the LGBTQ+ community of Utrecht to celebrate the annually Gay Pride Event with their first own, unique and rainbow colored Canal Pride Parade. “The heart of the Netherlands” will turn pink when for the first ever dressed up Grachten boats will ride the old canals of the fourth biggest city of the Netherlands accompanied by proud gay, lesbian, bi, trans and friends from all over the world. Starting at Ledig Erf, the Utrecht Gay Pride Parade on the canals will end at the Zandbrug, just around the corner of the well-known gay bars “Bodytalk” and “Café Kalff”.

Our Gay Couple Biking Trips Amsterdam Forest brings us this time to the green lounge of the Dutch capital, to the Amsterdamse Bos or the Forest of Amsterdam. Located in the South-West of the city of Amsterdam, the man-made nature preserve is home to hundreds of different bigger and smaller animals, beautiful gardens, waterways and of course, wood. All year around the Forest of Amsterdam offers its visitors space to breath fresh air and relax from busy everyday life in a peaceful green environment just 30 minutes by bike from the city center of Amsterdam.

Our Best Lesbian Movies Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam 2017 – In celebration of its 20th edition in 22 years the LGBTQ Film Festival in Amsterdam is welcoming film and movie enthusiasts from all over the world to see, feel, experience over 120 short movies, documentaries, and motion pictures in Amsterdam. The topics differ from gay, lesbian, transsexual, intersexual, bisexual to all variations in between. But since it is the 20th anniversary of the biggest Film Festival in the Netherlands, the LGBTQ Film Festival will show some great Dutch movies, too. You will be amazed what cultural LGBTQ Life Amsterdam has to offer besides the wonderful Gay Canal Pride Parade every year.

Our best Gay Movies Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam 2017 – This year the LGBTQ Film Festival in Amsterdam is celebrating its 20th edition with more than 120 short movies, documentaries and motion pictures. Additional to the premier of SCAR TISSUE, the gay migration movie with our Daan as one of the main actors, the Amsterdam Queer Film Festival is featuring movies with Gay Men, Lesbian, Transsexual and Intersexual topics from all over the world but of course, with a Dutch focus as it is the 20th edition of the LGBTQ Film Festival in 2017. Our Review of the Escape Room Amsterdam Xitroom – Our hometown, the Dutch capital Amsterdam, has numerous Escape Rooms to offer, most of them in English language and therefore an ideal adventure during your gay travels to the Netherlands. The Escape Room “The Professor ” by Xitroom is our this week’s looked-up-in-a-room experience. The team game is located right at the famous Prins Hendrikkade just a 10 minutes walk from Amsterdam Centraal, the main station, the harbor area including Nemo and the Red-Light-District as some of the best-known sights right in the city center of Amsterdam. We could choose between two different rooms beforehand while making the appointment. A cozy waiting area with drinks and snacks and very friendly and helpful staff was waiting for us to lock us up and trying to make it as difficult as possible for us to find our way out. To escape the room “The Professor” on time before the 60 minutes were up, we teamed up with our friend Barbara from Austria. A Gay Couple City Weekend Nijmegen – It is time for Nijmegen, the oldest Dutch city is the fifth destination of our Dutch Gay City Tour in a warming late winter sun. We spent a long weekend in the history-charged charming city in Gelderland close to the German border. While wandering and biking around the unique mixture of a traditional Dutch city with a modern touch in architecture, art, hip and cozy places and along the Waal river, we felt home for some days in our gay-friendly hotel Sleep in Box5. An early warm spring sun, a busy shopping crowd in the city center and abounded spots along the river: Nijmegen has it all. Don’t forget to look up the old Dutch houses, check historical Roman archaeological finds at Valkhof Museum, enjoy a beer and dinner at the Honig Factory and discover the world like blind people do. Queer Amsterdam New LGBTQ Drama Series by BNN – Nine times six minutes queer LGBTQ drama on YouTube! But what is this exploration of the queer universe of Amsterdam about? Heteros, homos, women, men, transgender, and bisexual people, to pigeonhole everyone is the most comfortable way to handle diversity, isn’t it? Well, or is it just the way to show, that actually no one really fits in? The brand new Dutch LGBTQ Drama series tries to insinuate at exactly those weak points of our not always so gay-friendly society and to show these conflicts to a much broader audience outside the LGBTQ community in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Europe and all around the world. Nothing is as easy as a “normality” tries to show. But what is normal in QUEER Amsterdam? And is it important to which gender I am falling in love with or is it the human being itself?

A Gay Couple City Weekend Groningen – Karl & Daan’s Dutch City Tour brought the gay couple to the “capital of the North”, especially for a visit at the Groninger Museum. Groningen with its compact and walkable old town surrounded by Grachten is very well known for its famous Groninger Museum. Currently with the V&A exhibition “David Bowie is”, the popular student life and a creative art scene. Muzieum Nijmegen Experience Blind World – The museum experience muZIEum (Engl.: MuSEEum). The basement of the Schouwburg (Theater) was transformed into a dark room fully equipped with everyday items and objects to create an environment alike blind people are experiencing our visible world, day by day.

Restaurant Cantinetta Wine & Pasta in Amsterdam West – This amazing place is very special to us. Let us tell you a short story about “our” favorite restaurant Cantinetta Wine & Pasta in Amsterdam West (very gay-friendly). During Karl’s first time visiting Daan over the weekend three years ago, we went together to the, back then, recently opened restaurant Cantinetta Wine & Pasta in Amsterdam West. The food was (still is) amazing and with its “Berlin sense of style” it felt for Karl a bit like home. Talking to the owners, the lesbian couple Debb and Claudia, made this first time eating at Cantinetta like a cozy family dinner. Since then, already 3 years passed by and we are coming here regularly to meet our “girlfriends” and spoil our tummies.

Restaurant “Soepboer” in Amsterdam Noord – If you got hungry and you are on the lookout for a nice place to lunch in Amsterdam Noord, take a 10-minutes walk to the cosy restaurant “Soepboer”. Taste the delicious, fresh and self-made soups and sandwiches in this tiny unremarkable restaurant, sitting on its beautiful garden terrace in the sun or in a cozy corner inside at Restaurant Soepboer Amsterdam Noord.

Looking for the highest point in Amsterdam? Best Amsterdam view A’DAM LOOKOUT – Next to the EYE, the A’dam Tower recently opened it’s doors again after a long renovation. If you wanna have the best view over the city center, the Music Gebouw and the IJ river, you have to take the elevator with its spectacular light show all the way up to the LOOKOUT. Don’t forget to make your memory picture, which you can download for free (or buy as printed version). Enjoy our small video (spoiler warning!).

The Restaurant GYS Voorstraat Utrecht is our tip for a city trip to Utrecht. Especially after a morning exploring the Dutch city. If you get hungry in the center, just walk around the famous Janskerk. In less than 5 minutes your next stop for a Lunch break is GYS. It is very easy to find, just at the corner of Amsterdamsestraatweg and Voorstraat in an old Dutch building, you will find one of the two GYS, the restaurant GYS Voorstraat Utrecht.

Restaurant Dertien Rotterdam is one of the hipper and interesting places Rotterdam has to offer. The Chef together with his young and motivated staff are offering special food and a variety of delicious drinks. The two-floor restaurant feels very open and the real fire oven (for cooking) and the old-fashioned way of “writing” the menu by putting small wooden cards with a ladder on the wall, gives this place a sense of craftsmanship with an eye for details. Talk to the guys and ask about their particular way of preparing food by fermentation. Especially a good place for foodies who like a bit of adventure and innovation.
