Actor Daan Colijn is Princess Willeke

Yes, our Daan Colijn was part of last year’s Ro Theater production “De Gelaarsde Poes”. And of course, he is playing someone really special: Princess Willeke (amongst other funny side characters like a boring shoe salesman or Flemish fairy). Although playing a woman was for Daan not really an overcoming out of his professional perspective, he still missed his beard so badly! But since the end of March, his beard is back! 😀

But who is actually Willeke? She is the youngest of the three sisters, full of humor, she loves dancing and taking care of her beautiful long blond hair. Her biggest dream for the future… well to reveal this secret go and watch the play “De Gelaarsde Poes”![/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

Premiere of “De Gelaarsde Poes” at Schwouburg Rotterdam | 20-12-2015

“The only pussy you must see”

.. so it is written in the fairytale the “Puss in Boots” by Charles Perrault. Wait, or is this the enhanced storyline of the family theater comedy of the Ro Theater of Rotterdam? In any case, it is more than true, not only because of the sexy naked apple bottom of farmboy Jaap.

“Hilarious fairytale” and “phenomenal performance” are examples to recite some famous Dutch newspapers with their four and five-star reviews. I was glad to be present at the premiere of this ‘winter and spring season 2015/2016’ Dutch theatrical highlight. Even for non-native Dutch speakers the cast of “De Gelaarsde Poes” creates with their way of facial expressions and gesturing an amazing performance to enjoy.

Together with a successful scenography (which was changing the stage from a royal palace to a cabin in the woods uncountable times in incredible speed) and the combination of reinterpreted famous Michael Jackson songs makes this 7th Christmas Theater play of the Ro Theater worth every second sitting in the audience. Thumbs up for both adults and children! [/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space][vc_column_text]

All you need to know about the Play “De Gelaarsde Poes”

The Cast – Rotterdam RO Theater on tour “De Gelaarsde Poes”

A fantastic group of young and also really experienced actors takes the audience on a trip around the tiny kingdom Biechtenstein with smart songs, lots of jokes and lovely characters. For a better overview about who is playing what, here is some info about this year’s cast.

Main Characters: Maarten Heijmans, Bart Rijnink & Tom van Kalmthout

Although Emmy-winner Maarten Heijmans was not able to play his role of the Puss at the premiere because of his motorcycle injury, his temporary replacement Bart Rijnink plays a great show, too! He gives the character Puss in Boots an own personality with wit and acuity and the right Michael Jackson moves. Together with his companion Jaap, impersonated by Tom van Kalmthout, the main characters guide the audience throughout the play from setting to setting.

Alex Klaasen – Veteran & Multitalent

Alex Klaasen, one of the veterans of the Ro Theater performances, is with his excellent performance undoubtedly a pillar for the success, next to the fact that he was the songwriter for all the Ro Theater family Christmas performances of the past 6 years. This year he impresses the audience with the roles of the Giant, the Thai-cat Mi Tong and some very well played smaller roles. Kudos!

Not to miss: Keja Klaasje Kewstro, Arian Ederveen & Dick van den Tooren

The only actress of the play, Keja Klaasje Kewstro as the oldest sister of the 3 princess sisters, fights her way around the palace, the forest and into the hands of the handsome Jaap. But in his arms, her journey just begins! If you ever thought about how a joint venture between a fairytale and a Bond movie could look like: here we are with Arjan Ederveen, the blonde, bleached tribble or double or .. anyway secret service agent James Blond and his always hilarious sexy way of “protecting” the innocent, dirty minded princesses. But wait, what did the king say? Let us know if you understand a word.. of Dick van den Tooren’s comical character.

The Two innocent but tainted Princess-Sisters Willeke & Wies

And of course, we should not forget the two drag sisters of princess Wendy, Wies (Steyn de Leeuwe) and Willeke (Daan Colijn) who are making the Rotterdamse Schouwburg tremble when singing (with the audience) hilarious songs, brushing their long golden hair and idolize the one and only James Blond.

Enough time for laughing & being thrown back in a childlike wonderland

The play takes about 3 hours with a 30 minutes break for refreshments but also to recap the load of pictures and impressions. Some scenes might feel a little bit unnecessary stretched but not according to all the children who have their eyes straight at the stage for the whole 2.5 hours in the theater of the Rotterdamse Schouwburg!

Rotterdam RO Theater on tour 2016

Fans already know about it for years, but for everyone who still doesn’t: the annual theater plays (for example in 2016 “Degelaarsde Poes“) will start touring around the Netherlands from January on. Until then you have the chance to see the new play “Snorro – is terug” at Rotterdam Schouwburg. Last year the show together with us traveled around the Netherlands, for example to Groningen, Eindhoven, Nijmegen, Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague, and AmsterdamIt was a great tour in great cities all around the Netherlands.
