Our Austria Gay Travel Guide
Austria Gay Travel Guide: The German-speaking central European country of Austria is well known for its breathtaking mountains, traditional cuisine, cultural heritage, and important role in the history of the world. Austria developed a very high living standard making it a comfortable holiday destination with natural landmarks and a total of nine UNESCO World Heritage sights. The alpine country just legalized gay marriage or the so-called same-sex marriage by the beginning of 2019. In general, Austria is considered to be a more conservative country within the European Union. But especially in the last couple of years, the public opinion of the Austrian society seems to develop a more and more open mindset towards the LGBT. Following the annual Gay Travel Index of Spartacus, Austria ranks on place 15.
If you are planning to travel to Austria and to support the local LGBT community, four cities of the Alpine country are organizing Gay Pride Festivals, or the so-called CSD Demonstration (Christopher Street Day): Vienna, which is also the hosting city of EuroPride 2019, Innsbruck, Linz and Bregenz. Additional to that, the Sound of Music and Mozart city Salzburg is hosting several gay and LGBT events as well the South-Austrian state of Carinthia with the annual Pink Lake Festival. During our gay travel around the world, we traveled four times to Austria together so far. Dressed in our Lederhosen, we visited Salzburg for a wonderful Gay Couple City Weekend Salzburg in May. Supporting the good cause of the AIDS Charity Event Life Ball, we traveled to Vienna this June. And not to forget our first time in Sissi-country, we attended the Pink Lake Festival at the famous Wörthersee close to Klagenfurt in the south of the country. But this wasn’t all as we have already the next plans for a trip to the former Empire of Austria. Have a look at our Austria Gay Travel Guide Blog article below!
