Time for the LGBTQ+ community of Utrecht to celebrate the annually Gay Pride Event with their first own, unique and rainbow colored Canal Pride Parade. “The heart of the Netherlands” will turn pink when for the first ever dressed up Grachten boats will ride the old canals of the fourth biggest city of the Netherlands accompanied by proud gay, lesbian, bi, trans and friends from all over the world. Starting at Ledig Erf, the Utrecht Gay Pride Parade on the canals will end at the Zandbrug, just around the corner of the well-known gay bars “Bodytalk” and “Café Kalff”.
But that was just the beginning of the rainbow colored weekend in Utrecht, the little sister of Amsterdam. So if you are still on the scout for the right weekend planning, pack your pride stuff, self-made posters, and your friends and join the Dutch crowd for their first edition of the Utrecht Canal Gay Pride in 2017. The celebrations will continue after the canal parade at the Utrecht Gay Pride Street Party (Pink Zone) where everyone is invited to stand together united for equality and against discrimination and celebrate pride at its best. The First Utrecht Canal Gay Pride 2017
The Utrecht Canal Pride will start at 1 pm (13:00 hours) from the Ledig Erf. From there, the parade will continue its way passing by The Dom Church (St. Martin’s Cathedral, Utrecht) through the lively and beautiful city center of Utrecht toward De Weerdsluis. During the peak of the parade, all 27 boats will be located at the famous Oudegracht. There, the major of Utrecht will welcome the Canal Parade with a confetti shower. Passing the last bend, the Utrecht Canal Parade boats will reach their final destination around the Monicabrug.
If you are wondering, where you should go or where you can see canal boats best, have a look at the map. The green areas are free to visit for everyone, but those areas are most likely the busiest, of course. The red areas are closed because of construction work and security reasons. A tip from the organizers: avoid the shopping area, because of the shopping tourists.
