[edgtf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”#3f6557″ background_color=””]O[/edgtf_dropcaps]ur Review of the Escape Room Amsterdam Xitroom – Our hometown, the Dutch capital Amsterdam, has numerous Escape Rooms to offer, most of them in English language and therefore an ideal adventure during your gay travels to the Netherlands. The Escape Room “The Professor ” by Xitroom is our this week’s looked-up-in-a-room experience. The team game is located right at the famous Prins Hendrikkade just a 10 minutes walk from Amsterdam Centraal, the main station, the harbor area including Nemo and the Red-Light-District as some of the best-known sights right in the city center of Amsterdam.

We could choose between two different rooms beforehand while making the appointment. A cozy waiting area with drinks and snacks and very friendly and helpful staff was waiting for us to lock us up and trying to make it as difficult as possible for us to find our way out. To escape the room “The Professor” on time before the 60 minutes were up, we teamed up with our friend Barbara from Austria. Enjoy our review of the Xitroom Escape Room “The Professor” and see the looked-up world through a couple of gay men’s eyes!

All about Escape Room Amsterdam Xitroom

In 2013, Xitroom was one of the first escape games in the Netherlands. At Xitroom there are two different escape rooms you can play at both locations in Eindhoven and Amsterdam. The Professor, tells the story of Professor X and the brilliant puzzles that he created to make sure that no one can break out of his office and steal his inventions. Next door you can play Crack the Safe, which tells the story of Professor X’s older sister Madam X who has asked her brother to build a vault for her most precious jewel, a 69-carat diamond. At both experiences, you get 60 minutes to escape and exit the locked room.

Escape room „The Professor”:

The Professor is an escape room where you don’t need to break in or find a treasure. You just have to find a way out. The room is themed as the office of Professor X, where he does research and works on his inventions. There are some small tricks and secrets to explore. This classic „exit the room” has no further storyline except for finding the main door code through solving different riddles and puzzles. The room was nicely decorated cupboards and every prop has a purpose or it is made very clear that it doesn’t. Most puzzles have an explanation card to help you solve it, but you first have to find them of course.

Our Xitroom Amsterdam Review:

We definitely recommend The Professor for families or friends with children because everybody will be able to play along. It is also a very good first Escape experience for understanding the rules and build of the “exit the room” genre. Most puzzles were fun to figure out but some might feel a bit easy for experienced players. Maybe we are just getting the hang of solving riddles because we finished the room with still 14 min on the clock. That would have been 30 min if we wouldn’t have got stuck on two very easy math puzzles that we just couldn’t figure out. Two or three more elaborated puzzles could have helped to spice up the tempo and make us work harder to get out in time. We really liked exploring the nicely themed cupboards although we got pretty distracted by the quirky but mind-melting tune that Professor X made us listen to for the 45 min we were inside his office. Now we understand how Mister X became such a crazy professor! Nevertheless, we had a very good time trying to escape and we enjoyed his inventions and riddles with our dear friend Barbara who helped us set a very reasonable end time with 14:10 min on the clock.
