This year, the biggest Dutch LGBTQ Film Festival “Roze Filmdagen” in the Netherlands celebrates its 20th anniversary loaded with a big diversity of Gay, Lesbian, Trans, Intersexual and all kind of LGBTQ-related movies in between. From March 9th to March 19th the Dutch capital is hosting the screening of more than 120 movies of 38 different countries varying from short movies to documentaries to 41 motion pictures. Guests from all over the world are invited to enjoy the movies at “Het Ketelhuis Cultuurpark Westergasterrein” in Amsterdam. The romantic comedies to provoking documentaries to motion pictures are exclusive with English subtitles from romances to comedy and provoking documentaries, with just a few exceptions and so open to watch even for tourists visiting Amsterdam and movie lovers from all over the world. The team behind the festival pays special attention to current topics, like Rainbow Families, the controversial topic PrEP and migrants/refugees. After each movie, a Q&A will take place to discuss the movie with actors, makers, and spectators in English or Dutch, depending on the audience.

The Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival 2017 will take off with The Roze Filmdagen opening night March 9th at the Ketelhuis and Westergas Theatre in Amsterdam Westerpark with the screening of the Irish movie ‘Handsome Devil’, directed by John Butler for 400 guests. One big highlight for us this year is the premiere of the Dutch short movie “SCAR TISSUE”, a very special gay migrant movie with our Daan as one of the main characters. This year’s 20th edition of the festival promises to be a spectacular LGBTQ event in the Dutch capital not to be missed!

Historical Background of the Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival: The movie festival started in 1996 at two venues in Amsterdam: a little underground theater, called Cavia and Cinema Rialto. The first edition was in June at Gay Pride Festival Amsterdam and took four days. With the years, the festival grew bigger and moved to Cinema de Balie and the Film Museum (currently located at EYE). The festival was rescheduled to November to end up in March. Since 2014 Cinema Het Ketelhuis is the main venue of the Roze Filmdagen Amsterdam LGBTQ Film Festival.
