Kivik’s gay Cake Cowboy. The third stop on our 5-days road trip around South Sweden was Kivik, a locality in Österlen, the southeastern part of Scania (Skåne). This picturesque village with its small harbor is simply perfect to take long walks, enjoy some of the cider the region is famous for and enjoy some freshly caught seafood by sunset. But Kivik is even more. It is home to a very special person of the LGBTQ+ community who has his own story of pride, acceptance and gay life to tell. Yes, we are talking about the Cake Cowboy Markus Lundqvist, a gay chocolatier who settled down in Kivik and opened up his shop. The gay-owned so-called Chocolate Saloon & Grocery offers delicious sweets and pastries as well as everything you need for daily life including rainbow flags, pins, and stickers.
After our Gay City Trip to Malmö, we took a rental car to drive all the way northwest of the South Swedish county Skåne. The first stop on our 5-day road trip was the Kullaberg Nature Reserve and the little fisher village Mölle. Stunning views, rough nature, and the cute little colorful Swedish houses give this region of Sweden a very unique atmosphere. Embedded in the rough nature of the Kattegat shoreline (name of the sea between Northern and Baltic Sea), we found the gay-friendly and gay couple owned café Ransvik Havsveranda with a special historical significance.
The vegan restaurant Mineral in Malmö. Fans of the vegetarian and even vegan cuisine visiting Malmö and South Sweden should put the gay-friendly restaurant Mineral in Malmö on their gay travel bucket list. Owned and run by three Swedish girlfriends, this top restaurant in Malmö is all about the connection to nature from the interior to all plant-based food and natural drinks.

Having Lunch at Surf House Barcelona Food Drinks Beach View. On our way from the narrow old town city streets of the Catalan city of Barcelona to the beach, we got hungry. Sensing the delicious Spanish tapas along the way, we felt it was time for Lunch. Eager to get as quick as possible close to the sand and the Mediterranean Sea, we were looking for a restaurant close to the beach. And there is was right at the corner of Carrer l’Almirall Aixada and Carrer de l’Almirall Cervera, the Surf House Barcelona looked more than inviting. Well, we could even see the sand and hear the Spanish and foreign people enjoying themselves at the beach. How about a fresh bagel, tomato relish sandwiches, ice cold ginger beer and an Oreo-Milkshake?
The Italian Restaurant Chez Acchiardo Nice France – “Chez Acchiardo” is a perfect place for a late lunch or a dinner in the middle of the city of Nice. It became one of the best food experiences of the whole trip to the French Riviera. The family-operated Italian restaurant is specialized in homemade Italian cuisine served in a warm and friendly ambiance prepares with the know-how of four generations. A friendly styled location with a certain coziness, typical Italian flair and French influences welcomes its guest like they were part of the family. Located at rue Droite, “Chez Acchiardo” in our opinion should be definitely on your restaurant list for a weekend in Nice. Read more about our Gay Couple City Weekend Nice.
Restaurant Cantinetta Wine & Pasta in Amsterdam West – This amazing place is very special to us. Let us tell you a short story about “our” favorite restaurant Cantinetta Wine & Pasta in Amsterdam West (very gay-friendly). During Karl’s first time visiting Daan over the weekend three years ago, we went together to the, back then, recently opened restaurant Cantinetta Wine & Pasta in Amsterdam West. The food was (still is) amazing and with its “Berlin sense of style” it felt for Karl a bit like home. Talking to the owners, the lesbian couple Debb and Claudia, made this first time eating at Cantinetta like a cozy family dinner. Since then, already 3 years passed by and we are coming here regularly to meet our “girlfriends” and spoil our tummies.
