Germany gets more queer Christmas markets every year, and in 2026 cities from Berlin to Munich and Hamburg welcome you to LGBTQ+ & gay Christmas markets. We, Karl and Daan of Couple of Men, researched all dates, locations and opening hours for you. Where a date is not officially confirmed yet, we say so. We have already been to Munich, and this year we are heading to Heavenue in Cologne. We can’t wait!

Why LGBTQ+ & gay Christmas markets 2026 matter
Queer Christmas markets are meeting points for the community during Advent, with mulled wine, a stage program and room for conversation. Many are closely tied to the local scene: in Berlin, associations and initiatives present their work at the LGBTQIA* Winterdays. In Heidelberg, the local AIDS-Hilfe support association organizes Pink Monday with Heidelberg Marketing. In Frankfurt, a whole square in the middle of the Christmas market is decorated in pink. Some markets donate part of their income to local queer projects, and the program often comes from artists of the scene.
For us, the atmosphere counts most. In Munich, we quickly got talking to locals, and we felt safe and welcome.

Queer Christmas markets have found their place in many German cities. We introduce the best-known ones in Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Hamburg and Frankfurt, plus regional specials in Heidelberg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Darmstadt and Essen. Christmas Avenue & LGBTQIA* Winterdays 2026 in Berlin
The LGBTQIA* Winterdays start on November 4, 2026, and Christmas Avenue opens on November 23 and runs until December 23. The market has a new location: instead of standing under the elevated railway, it is now in front of the Metropol at Nollendorfplatz, around the Nickelmann fountain in the heart of Schöneberg. Parts of the area are covered, which is a plus in Berlin winter weather. During the Winterdays, associations, initiatives, and organizations present their work and invite visitors to talk, focusing on social and political topics. After that comes Christmas Avenue with a stage program, drag acts, and stalls with festive treats.

Pink Christmas 2026 in Munich
Pink Christmas runs from November 20 to December 20, 2026, on Stephansplatz in the Glockenbachviertel. The market opens earlier than in previous years: according to the organizers, the city council decided on an earlier start. We have already visited the market in Munich and felt the atmosphere ourselves: joyful, exuberant, and safe. Everything was decorated in pink, a DJ we already knew from the Pink Lake Festival in Carinthia played the music, and we simply got to speak with the locals. The food was delicious. We picked up a few queer gifts, where part of the profit goes to community projects. The queer gingerbread heart and the rainbow mulled wine mugs now sit in our cupboard at home.

Heavenue 2026 in Cologne
Heavenue is open from November 16 to December 23, 2026, on Friesenplatz in Cologne, and admission is free. Spanning about 2,000 square meters, the queer Christmas market features a walk-in XXL mulled wine tent with seating inside and out, a ten-meter-high fountain, a rotating Christmas tree, and pastel-colored huts. A Christmas show runs on stage every day. Heavenue has had a break: after the 2021 edition, the market did not take place from 2022 to 2024, and in 2025 it returned to Friesenplatz.
We are going to Heavenue this year and can’t wait! We already know Cologne from Cologne Pride 2025, where we marched and celebrated with countless other people.

Winter Pride 2026 in Hamburg
Winter Pride runs from November 18 to December 23, 2026, in Hamburg-St. Georg, at the corner of Lange Reihe and Kirchenallee, just a few steps from the main station. The queer Christmas market sits in the middle of the scene neighborhood. You get mulled wine, punch, and northern German specialties, plus music and a show program, mostly on weekends. Local organizations and initiatives share their work.

Rosa Weihnacht 2026 in Frankfurt
Rosa Weihnacht is part of the Frankfurt Christmas market, which runs from November 23 to December 22, 2026. It sits on Friedrich-Stoltze-Platz, and the whole square is lovingly decorated in pink. In rustic wooden huts, you will find hot cocktails and homemade soups, among other things. This is where the LGBTQ+ community meets in the middle of Frankfurt’s big market.

Beyond the big cities, smaller formats often take the form of single evenings or recurring Monday and Thursday meetups aimed at queer visitors. In Heidelberg, Stuttgart, and Darmstadt, the 2026 dates are set. In Düsseldorf and Essen, they are not officially confirmed yet.
Pink Monday 2026 in Heidelberg
Pink Monday takes place on Monday, November 30, 2026, from 6 pm to 10 pm on Heidelberg’s Marktplatz. This year the Heidelberg Christmas market (in German) runs from November 23 to December 22. That evening the market square and the surrounding buildings glow pink. At 4:30 pm there is a service at the Church of the Holy Spirit, which is lit pink inside and out in solidarity with the queer community and people living with HIV. The evening opens at 6 pm. There is pink mulled wine from the Adam Müller winery, and AIDS-Hilfe Heidelberg and AIDS und Kinder e.V. are on site at the Bürgerhütte. The music program has not been announced yet. The support association of AIDS-Hilfe Heidelberg, together with Heidelberg Marketing, organizes Pink Monday.

Pink Monday 2026 in Düsseldorf (Gays on Christmas Market)
Pink Monday traditionally meets on Mondays at the Schwarzwaldhütte on Schadowplatz, in past years from 6 pm. According to Düsseldorf Tourismus, the Düsseldorf Christmas market runs from November 19 to December 30, 2026. The Mondays in that period fall on November 23 and 30 and on December 7, 14, 21 and 28. Which of them will be Pink Monday evenings is not yet officially confirmed. We will add the dates as soon as they are confirmed. In 2025, Pink Monday took place on all six Mondays of the market season, from November 24 to December 29.
Since 2014, gay men, lesbians, and other queer visitors have come together here under the rainbow, back then still under the name Pink Monday Düsseldorf. Under the motto “Gays on Christmas Market,” clubs, bars, and associations celebrate Advent together. The menu traditionally features egg liqueur, mulled wine, hot chocolate with Amarula, and hearty snacks.

GAYnachtsmarkt Stuttgart 2026
The GAYnachtsmarkt takes place on four Thursdays in 2026: November 26, and December 3, 10, and 17, each time from 5 pm at the “Heißer Fritz” stall on the market square next to Breuninger. The Stuttgart Christmas market (in German) runs from November 25 to December 23. Once a week, the community meets here to catch up, get to know each other, and get into the Christmas spirit, with the crew or on your own.

Our tip: In past years, GAYnachtsmarkt visitors with the flyer got 50 cents off a drink, for example, a mulled wine. We don’t know yet whether it will return in 2026. If you are freezing after the Christmas market, our friends David and Andreas from Stuttgart recommend the Rubens gay café just around the corner.
Vielbunter Freitag 2026 in Darmstadt
The Vielbunter Freitag (“Colorful Friday”) takes place on Friday, November 20, 2026, from 6 pm on the Christmas market stage on the Marktplatz. The Darmstadt Christmas market runs from November 16 to December 23. That evening Darmstadt’s queer community takes the stage. Vielbunt e.V., the city’s queer cultural center, traditionally hosts the evening. In past years, it came with live music, drag acts, and a colorful show. In 2025, it was on December 19.

Pink Monday “Glühweintreff” 2026 in Essen
Pink Monday in Essen traditionally takes place on Mondays. Dates and meeting points for 2026 are not yet officially confirmed. This year the International Christmas Market Essen runs from November 13 to December 23. The meeting point changes: in earlier years, most recently in 2024, the community met at the “Zum Ritter” hut in the Feuerwald on Friedensplatz; in 2025, the gay and lesbian mulled wine meetup, with different artists every week, took place at the gentleM Bar. Once we set the dates and locations for 2026, we will add them here.

Tips for visiting queer Christmas markets in 2026
These pointers help us at every Christmas market visit:
- Check the dates: For markets we mark as “not confirmed yet,” take a brief look at the organizers’ website or Instagram channel shortly before your visit.
- Safety: Christmas markets can get crowded. Keep an eye on your belongings and agree on a spot to meet your friends in case you lose each other. Drink responsibly and plan your way home.
- Accommodation: Many cities with queer Christmas markets have LGBTQ+-friendly hotels. Book early, because they fill up fast during Advent. In our hotel reviews you will find tested recommendations.
- Support the community: Buy from local vendors, try regional specialties, and look out for donation drives for queer projects. That is how the LGBTQ+ community stays visible in the future.
- Clothing and shoes: Dress warmly and wear comfortable shoes. Most markets are outdoors and, depending on the weather, cold or slippery.
- Agree on a meeting point: At big markets, it pays to fix a meeting spot with your friends in case you get lost in the crowd.
- Bring cash: Smaller stalls often still don’t take cards. A bit of cash saves you the trip to the ATM.
Queer alternatives: LGBTQ+ ski weeks in winter
After mulled wine and twinkling lights, we head to the mountains in the new year. Gay ski weeks combine sport, parties, and community and take place every winter in many countries. The classics in Europe include Arosa, Lenzerheide, Tignes, and Sölden, and in North America, Aspen and Whistler. Niseko in Japan and Queenstown in New Zealand top the list.
