Meet Kirk & Spock at Star Trek Starfleet Academy | Telus Spark Calgary Canada
The Telus Spark Calgary Star Trek Academy Experience – There is always time for a Star Trek Day, at least for us gay travel bloggers and Trekkies. And so we made sure to visit the Science Museum Telus Spark in Calgary for its Star Trek The Starfleet Academy Experience and day full of fun with Mister Spock, Captain Kirk, Captain Picard and Kathryn Janeway. Entering a perfectly themed world, we completed a phaser training, improved our Klingon knowledge with language lessons and tried to pass the Kobayashi Maru test. But there was more to see!
The museum complex just 5 minutes by car north of Calgary Zoo opened in 2011 and is since then a place for interactive exhibits, multimedia presentations and educational demonstrations in Calgary, Alberta, and Canada. Right before our 2-week Road Trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains of Alberta, we spent some adventurous days exploring Canada’s third-largest municipality and its surrounding sights. The exhibition around the Federation of Planets at Telus Spark is open until May 4th, 2017. Enjoy our photos and info of our gay-friendly Star Trek experience and see the Canadian Science Museum Telus Spark through a couple of men’s eyes!
Get started! Star Trek Wristband
The Telus Spark building as a modern architecture complex located in the Nose Creek Valley provides a huge parking area (don’t forget to buy a ticket at the entrance of the building). We could choose between different options: visiting Telus Spark Science Museum and the Star Trek Academy experience or just the special exhibition on its own. After entering the building, you will find lockers and the ticket counters to your right and the entrance to the world of the Starfleet on your left. After getting our Star Trek Wristband, we started our Star Trek Adventure Calgary with the registration computer. Welcome in the Start Trek Universe!
Medical, Science or Command Officer?
Starting in the Medical Center, our carrier as Star Fleet Officers begins with a selection process during several test located all around the exhibition. Therefore, we had to learn Klingon language, save Alien species from natural catastrophes and complete phaser shooting tests. In between the tests, we had time to learn about the life as Starfleet officers and look at real props from the original Star Trek series but also from the movies, Next Generation, Starship Voyager and Deep Space Nine. After completing the tests, you will get to know what your perfect profession at Starfleet Academy would be. By the way, we as gay travel bloggers made it into Engineering!
Beam me up, Scotty!
Before we entered our highlight of the exhibition, the replicate of a real Star Trek Next Generation Bridge and the hall of fame with original uniforms of the best known captains, we were able to say finally once in our life: “Beam me up, Scotty”! Make your own movie of how you are beamed up where ever Scotty needs you to explore a foreign planet in a galaxy far far away! Not only for real Star Trek and Star Wars nerds a great fun to do! How the video looks like? Check it out below!
