Review of the LGBTQ+ & gay-friendly Klaus K Design Hotel in Helsinki. Before we start with our review of the Klaus K Hotel Helsinki, we want to warn you that it will be a very sexy, gay-friendly hotel article. Not only because of all the sexy and intimidating paintings by Touko Valio Laaksonen, much better known as Tom of Finland. A must-do for LGBT travelers coming to Helsinki is to learn more about Tom of Finland and the open-mindedness of the Finnish people. After all, Finland legalized same-sex marriage in 2017. But the design hotel located in the heart of Helsinki at the west end of the Park Esplanadi is something to remember. Suitable for single gay & LGBTQ+ travelers as much as for gay couples exploring the Finnish capital city. So, we were invited to try the Tom of Finland Package during our stay at one of the Sky Balcony Rooms with a city view. Time to test the Finnish design hotel for its LGBTQ+ and gay-friendliness. Join us on our trip through Tom of Finland’s Helsinki and enjoy our hotel review “LGBTQ-friendly Klaus K Hotel in Helsinki” with photos and stories through a couple of men‘s eyes.

Gay-friendly Stay with Tom of Finland at the Klaus K Hotel
The moment we set foot in the Klaus K Hotel Helsinki, we got in touch with the erotic art of Tom of Finland. Signs of the Tom of Finland Experience city tour and the small Tom of Finland shop corner right next to the reception were just the beginning. The check-in was straightforward, providing all the necessary details for our gay city trip to Helsinki over the weekend. Our room was on the 7th floor, which was easily accessible by the hotel’s elevator. By entering the room, a hip and modern music mix started to play, and the remarkable black and white Tom of Finland sheets struck our eyes. But there was more to discover and to enjoy.

The elevated bed area, the generous private balcony with a city view, and the spacious bathroom with a double shower made the hotel package complete. Before we left the room again to start our Tom of Finland city tour, we took the time for some sexy, sunny photos of us drinking the Tom of Finland red wine from our Goody bag! After a wonderful night with all the sexy and handsome Tom of Finland men in our bed, we were ready for another day in Helsinki.

In a word, the Klaus K Hotel kept every single promise given on the website and all the positive reviews lifted the expectations of an LGBTQ+ friendly city hotel to a new level.

Sky Balcony Room at Klaus K Hotel Helsinki
We stayed in Sky Room 702, the highest floor, which had a balcony and precisely the right welcome music when we entered the room. The bed area, featuring a generous king-size bed, was elevated and connected to the rest of the spacious Sky Room by a small stairway. There was so much to discover, from the Tom of Finland Goody bag to the generously equipped minibar and coffee maker corner, to the private balcony with a view over Helsinki.

The low-keyed colors of the room and the right light installations, combined with the black and white bedding, could not have been better matched. Another highlight of the Sky Room at Klaus K Hotel Helsinki was the spacious bathroom with a huge (!) double shower. As you can imagine, we had a lot of fun doing a photo shooting in the showers. The high-end quality features of the room created a special, sexy, and luxurious feeling. So, long story short: We loved our hotel room!

Dinner at Restaurant Toscanini & Breakfast Buffet
Our culinary adventure began with dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Toscanini, following our Tom of Finland experience. We decided to have a four-course dinner, with a vegetarian option for Daan and a meat version for Karl. Furthermore, we paired the delicious menus with typical Finnish beverages, including apple cider and ginger beer with alcohol. Our table was situated right by the window, offering a view over the terrace and bustling Bulevardi Street. Our recommendations: the Antipasti platter, the vegetarian Risotto with purple cauliflower, and one of the outstanding pasta, pizza, or meat main dishes. Although it took quite a while to receive all our courses, it was worth the wait in the end.

The next morning, we enjoyed a rich breakfast with local ingredients at the breakfast area next to the reception. Afterward, the coffee at the sky bar while watching the sunrise over the Helsinki Cathedral was just the cherry on top of a successful stay in Helsinki.

Happy Guide Helsinki: Tom of Finland Experience
As part of the Tom of Finland Package at the Klaus K Hotel, we attended the Tom of Finland Helsinki City Tour, accompanied by our tour guide, Karri, from Happy Guide Helsinki. Finally, our tour started at the Klaus K Hotel with a short talk about Touko Valio Laaksonen, his Erotic-art, and a short but impressive presentation of his life in pictures and a video. Then it was time for our city walk through Tom of Finland’s life in Helsinki. So, we visited various places where Tom’s art became a popular part of Finnish culture. Good to know: The Klaus K Hotel is anything but shy about its LGBTQ+ friendliness and its status as a public supporter of the Tom of Finland Foundation. The Klaus K Hotel donates 10% of the revenue of the Tom of Finland Package to the Tom of Finland Foundation. By doing so, they aim to support the Foundation’s efforts to educate the public about the cultural merits of erotic art and promote healthier, more tolerant attitudes towards sexuality.
