This Friday, November 4, 2022, we receive wonderful, rainbow-colored news! Yes, it is now official: our adopted hometown Amsterdam will host World Pride 2026. The motto of the biggest LGBTQ+ event ever to be hosted in the Dutch capital will be “Unity”. In a statement on Instagram, the organization behind the bid announces, “25 years after the liberalization of civil marriage, Amsterdam will once again be the center of the world in 2026.” Having successfully hosted Euro Pride in 2016, this will be the first time in history that Amsterdam will host World Pride. We at Couple of Men will keep you updated with the latest news on this page, and as it progresses we will share with you the concrete plans for this spectacular event. From our side already: Happy World Pride 2026 in Amsterdam!
“Amsterdam got World Pride 2026”
When we looked at our cell phones today after our morning get-up ritual, we were already flooded with congratulations and reports from friends all over the world. Ravi, our very dear and queer friend from New York City, was the first: “Amsterdam got world pride 2026!!! 🙌 💅 🙌”. And even though there are still 3.5 years to go until this mega event, the time will surely fly by. And yet, enough time so to pick out the right outfits and parties for Amsterdam World Pride 2026 and plan the World Pride week(s) with friends from all over the world.
“The occasion is the silver anniversary of the opening of civil marriage to same-sex couples. This opening triggered a positive wave that now makes it possible to marry in 29 countries. So, the theme of “unity” stands for the bond that one enters into as a couple through marriage. But it also stands for the bond we should build within our LGBTI+ community. A bond that says you will always be there for each other, in good times and bad, in prosperity and adversity, in sickness and in health, to love and to care, and that we are only free when we can all be ourselves.”

World Pride 2026 will be back in Europe
After World Pride in Sydney and Washington, D.C., scheduled for 2023 and 2025, the mega event comes back to Europe and follows on the heels of the World Pride hosted in Copenhagen and Malmö in 2021. World Pride Amsterdam will take place from 26 July to 8 August 2026 and include various events, including Canal Pride, the Pride March, the WorldPride Conference, and a Human Rights Conference. But there will be so much to see, experience, stand up and fight for – together in Unity.
Amsterdam beat out Orlando in Florida
The cities of Amsterdam and Orlando, Florida, presented their World Pride plans at the Inter Pride conference 2022 in Guadalajara, Mexico. In a final vote, more than 400 InterPride members voted on the plans for the privilege of hosting World Pride 2026. Amsterdam won with 59 percent of the votes. Good to know: WorldPride is an event that promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ Pride) issues internationally through parades, festivals, and other cultural activities. It is the biggest LGBTQIA+ event in the world. In 2019, World Pride took place in New York City, honoring the Stonewall Riots on Christopher Street 50 years ago. The celebration attracted over 4 million people from around the world to travel to New York.
