Our stay at gay-friendly ROCKET ROOMS in Velden am Wörthersee. Summer time in Austria means Pink Lake time in Carinthia! We attended several editions of the popular Pink Lake Festival in Southern Austria, in 2018 for the first time. During this first trip, we stayed at the gay-friendly Hotel ROCKET ROOMS right in the city center of Velden am Wörthersee. Our double room with balcony, a rich breakfast, friendly staff, and the central location provided everything we needed for our time in Carinthia. Enjoy our hotel review of the LGBTQ+ friendly accommodation in Velden am Wörthersee and see the ROCKET ROOMS through a couple of men‘s eyes.
The market town Velden am Wörthersee, well-known for the Renaissance castle Schloss Velden, is located at the Western lakeside of Lake Wörth. It is one of the most famous holiday resorts in Austria. Especially in the summer, the lake’s warm and turquoise blue water and several public and private bathing beaches are creating a wonderfully relaxed holiday atmosphere. So, when you are looking for a stay in a modern, stylish, and hip place in Velden, gay-friendly accommodation is the right choice.
Double Room with Balcony at ROCKET ROOMS
We stayed in room number 214 (second and highest floor) at the rear part of the Rocket Rooms hotel building. Our double-bed room was equipped with modern furniture, a working desk, enough space to hang our clothes, and a spacious bathroom with a shower. The huge window side opened up to a spacious balcony with a view of a traditional building and the mountains in the back. Additional to towels, the room provides shower gel and shampoo, a hairdryer, and handkerchiefs. The windows are made of double glass, so the room is very well isolated from outside noise. The mattress was comfortable, and the beds and pillows were soft with linen sheets. In short, a perfect resort for a nice sleep.
A Breakfast Buffet we felt in Love with
A huge selection of local and international food was part of our breakfast buffet. Start with a freshly pressed juice (mix your favorite fruits yourselves), order an omelet with all vegetables you are up to, take a bowl and mix your cereals and try some local fresh bread with ham or cheese. Although some wasps are flying around, we could choose to have breakfast inside or on the terrace. A great start to a great day at Lake Wörthin Velden!
Dinner & Drinks at the gay-friendly Hotel in Velden
Back from a day at the beach club or a hiking tour to the Austrian mountains, we did not have to go far for a good dinner. The Rocket Bistro offers a diverse selection of delicious food for meat lovers and vegetarians. Especially the burgers are known for their juicy, delicious taste. Karl tried the “Bad Ass Burger” with fries, while Daan chooses the vegetarian option “truffle pasta.” Both meals delivered what the waiter promised, seriously. Together with a local biological white bear, the day couldn’t end a better way. But don’t forget to make a reservation beforehand.
Activities in Velden am Wörthersee & around
Velden am Wörthersee is a good basis to start exploring the region around a variety of mountain lakes, mountains, valleys, and green sunny meadows and waterfalls. The ideal natural landscape for long hiking, mountain biking, and photography tours. We found the perfect destination for a day trip with the perfect view over the Wörthersee: the Pyramidenkogel platform with the highest slide in Europe. For the relaxing days in between, try a day at, on, or in the warm water of Lake Wörth, one of the biggest lakes in Austria. Romantic cruises, water-skiing, wave boarding in Maria Wörth, or simply swimming are great options to enjoy a “gaycation” in Austria.
And if you do not already have one, you can finally buy your traditional “Lederhosen” in the next bigger city, for example, in Klagenfurt at Heimatwerk Kärnten. Carinthia has it all in front of the magnificent backdrop of the Karnische Alpen and the Karawanken mountain range. One final tip: If you have a rental car and any time left, drive all the way down to the Mediterranean Sea to Italy or Slovenia in less than two hours! We have heard from locals that this trip is a must-do during a holiday in the Villach region of Carinthia.
Résumé of our gay-friendly stay in Velden:
We enjoyed our stay at the ROCKET ROOMS Hotel very much. Especially the silence in our room during the night was a big plus for us. The beds were comfortable with good pillows. The air conditioning worked perfectly fine and was easily adjustable for a good sleep. The room and the entire hotel have been clean. The staff at the reception, bar and serving waiters were accommodating and friendly. Unfortunately, there is no pool or sauna at the hotel. But especially during summer, the SOL beach club and many public and private beaches are offering more than enough options to refresh, swim or take a sunbath. See you in Velden am Wörthersee!
