MOXY Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof: Review of our Gay-friendly Stay

Review of the MOXY Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof Gay-friendly – Time again for Berlin, the capital city in the eastern part of Germany. Famous for its arty, alternative, and hipster lifestyle and history as a divided city, Berlin is an all-year-round destination worth a weekend or full-week trip. And as everyone knows, Berlin is the popular party metropolis of Europe for straight and LGBTQ+ people from all over the world. Nothing can be too wild, too alternative, or too inventive. To sleep well in between the party nights and charge batteries with breakfast in the lobby, the Moxy Hotel was our weekend base right in the heart of eastern Berlin. Enjoy our Gay-friendly MOXY Hotel Berlin Review, the modern and sexy new chain Moxy Hotels of the Marriott family, through a couple of men‘s eyes.

Our trip to Berlin gave us the perfect reason to stay and review the gay-friendly Moxy Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof. The days getting shorter, the parks more colorful and the nights longer. For us, autumn time in Berlin is like spending a sunny day by the Spree river wrapped in a warm blanket, while the nights invite you to dance the daily routine away. Therefore, it was a good decision to spend a long weekend in Berlin going shopping, dancing, and meeting up with our best friends while Karl participated in the Gay and Lesbian Volleyball Tournament Goldelsen Cup.

Gay-friendly MOXY Hotel Berlin Review

Modern, sexy, fresh, hip, gay-friendly: the Moxy Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof is a great choice for everyone who’s looking for his Berlin adventure to start already at the hotel reception. Comfy beds, clean rooms, a rich breakfast buffet, famous DJ sessions and parties taking place in the hotel, games and fun with or without the staff, the Moxy Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof shows in an impressive way how to offer up-to-date accommodation not only for millennials and hipsters but for everyone who is looking for the proper gay-friendly hotel in a higher standard in Berlin. Well done Marriott! We will definitely come back to Berlin staying at the Moxy Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof gay-friendly or any other Moxy Hotels in Europe.

Double Bed Room with a view of the Ostbahnhof

The idea of the Moxy Hotels is to provide a luxurious small hideaway after a day of exploring the city and a night out enjoying the diversity of the Berlin party landscape.  Therefore, the double bedrooms are basically equipped with a high and modern standard. To avoid any kind of noise coming from the neighbor rooms and hallway the rooms are very well isolated with well closing doors, carpet, and thick windows. Also, we did hear anyone in the room next door. Especially while traveling in the century of Netflix, it is good to know that we could connect our Macs to the flat-screen TV for some streaming entertainment and could not disturb anyone around us.

The queen-size bed was very comfortable nestled in between the two nightstands made of glass. The lighting of the room was a real highlight with the illuminated bedside tables and lighting underneath the bed connecting to motion sensors. Every time we got up in the dark, the soft light underneath the bed went on! The bathroom was small but very clean and equipped with a hairdryer, big white towels, and complimentary lotion, shower gel, and shampoo.

Breakfast Buffet with Bar, Design & Modernism

There is nothing better when traveling than to start the day with a good breakfast. Cereals with yogurt, fresh cold cuts as well as still warm German pastry, bread, and buns are just the right thing to get the necessary energy for the coming day. Combined with a freshly made coffee and the chill atmosphere of the hip furnished and themed lobby-breakfast-area there was nothing much we missed. Some vegetables or salad would have been nice when you’re not only into carbs and meat.

Atmosphere & DJs = Perfect Weekend Base

Playing some kicker rounds, slouching on beanbag chairs, reading all kind of art and design books while listening to a DJane playing a superb mix of easy-listening music: the huge social relaxing lounge as the heart of the Moxy Hotel Berlin Ostbahnhof invited us to spend more time in the main lobby area than in our room. The Moxy Hotel in Berlin demonstrates a good eye for details in design, interior, and light.

Together with the young, friendly and motivated staff behind the bar and the reception, we came up with a good explanation for the word “Moxy”: MOdern & seXY. In the upcoming months, Berlin’s Moxy is about to get a fixed party itinerary with a lineup of local and international DJs becoming the perfect weekend base in the eastern part of the German capital. And so the chances of getting bored while staying at this Moxy Hotel drops to basically zero. And yes, it is still part of the 5-star Marriott family.

Activities around Berlin Ostbahnhof

Located right next to the Berlin Railway, Metro, and Underground station Berlin “Ostbahnhof”, the Moxy Berlin Ostbahnhof is well-connected to the rest of the huge capital city. North of the hotel, visitors will find the hip and trendy part of East Berlin, Friedrichshain. This part of the city is known for its alternative scene, impressive Socialist architecture around the square Frankfurter Tor or Strausberger Platz, and, of course, the infamous club Berghain. Exploring more of the East of Berlin, take a tour along with the Eastside Gallery, where graffiti turned the wall in front of the remains of the Berlin Wall into a gigantic open-air piece of art.

Crossing the river Spree, the neighborhoods of Kreuzberg and Neukölln will let you experience the real Berlin feeling with bars, gentrified residential areas, kebab shops, and underground clubs. When you turn west – but still remain in the Eastern part of Berlin – don’t miss taking a selfie with the TV tower at Alexanderplatz, explore the shops, boutiques, art galleries around Hackescher Markt, and further west the government district with Reichstagsgebäude, Kanzleramt and, of course, the Brandenburger Tor. Good to know:
Moxy Hotels are part of the Marriott family. Yet, Moxy Hotels are not typically a Marriott Hotel. Comfort, Design, and a lively atmosphere in the lobby and at the bar are the extraordinary reasons to stay at a Moxy. DJs, Parties, and games: Moxy Hotels stand for a “luxurious Hostel experience” made for a younger, more modern, and more social audience. Play on!

Surprisingly you didn´t mention the marvelous architecture and facade, a gem of Berlin. It combines soviet monotony and cheap business park architecture.

Indeed, the outside could have been realized differently. On the other hand, the inside makes up for it, don't you think? We will add a photo from the outside later on.
