We as Gay Travel Blogger will attend the 13th edition of the Pink Lake Festival in Southern Austria from 27th to 30th of August 2020. Just two weeks and less to go before we will depart to Klagenfurt in the South of the Austrian state Carinthia. We cannot wait to be in the mountains again, something we really miss in Amsterdam! This year, the queer festival will turn the small summer resort and lakeside town Pörtschach am Wörthersee into a pink and LGBTQ+ friendly Get-together to celebrate diversity, love, and equality right on the world-famous Lake Wört (Wörthersee) nestled in the Alps of Austria. Together with the European gay-community, we will put on our Lederhosen to enjoy the beauty of the Austrian mountains close to the border with Italy and Slovenia.

During the day we will explore the nature of Carinthia, spend four wonderful summer days with BEACH CLUB-ENTERTAINMENT at the flower island in Pörtschach, try the best restaurants around the Lake Wörth, go on a Lake Cruise together with guys, girls, friends, and allies and celebrate unity in diversity in the Alps. With its 12th edition, the Pink Lake Festival 2020 looks back on over a decade of LGBTQ+ highlights on the sunny side of the Alps and sets course to conquer new frontiers of European Gay Events for even more wonderful happenings to come. We are happy to be part of the 12th edition after the 10th and 11th anniversary the last years and looking forward to showing you the beauty of the Southern Austrian mountains through a couple of men‘s eyes.

Pink Lake Festival 2020 – 13th Edition

To conclude the summer, the Austrian state Carinthia, the region of Lake Wörth (Wörther See) together with the summer resort and lakeside Pörtschach am Wörthersee and the agency COMMUNIGAYTE are inviting the international gay, lesbian, bi- and trans community and their friends to celebrate the 12th edition of the LGBTQ+ event Pink Lake Festival in Southern Austria. The huge Lake Wörth as one of the biggest lakes in Austria is a popular holiday destination in the middle of the south Austrian mountains. During the 4-day LGBTQ+ festival gay couples, friends and rainbow families can explore the cities Klagenfurt and Villach, the Wörthersee, the towns around the Lake Wörth like Velden am Wörthersee, Pörtschach am Wörthersee, Krumpendorf am Wörthersee and the sunny mountains north of the Karawanks.

Carinthia turns Pink in 2020

Hiking, Mountain biking, Paragliding, Wake-Board Surfing, canoeing and, of course, swimming are the most favorite activities during a summer holiday in Carinthia, Austria. During the evening and nights, the Wörthersee region transforms into an LGBTQ+ friendly holiday destination with a relaxed summer atmosphere with gay parties, relaxing and romantic time for (gay) couples at the lake and the culinary highlights of the Austrian, Italian and Slovenian cuisine. We are so excited to meet guest and gay men from all over Europe like Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the UK to sound the bell for the last weeks of summer 2020.

Meet us during the day somewhere in the mountains or on the Flower Island by the Lake Wörth. As place-to-be, it is offering chill and relaxing areas with cocktails, club sounds, Pink Lake Drag Queen Mataina, the option to swim and do other water sports at the beachside of the “Wörthersee” during the Pink Lake Festival. For everyone staying in Velden and around with a festival ticket, the beach club is offering a free shuttle service “Speedline” to the island.

This year, the “big opening” will take place at Hotel Schloss Leonstain where the party band „die Stockhiatla“ will entertain the guests from all over the world with the best of the party-Alps-dance-music mix. Popular Drag Queen from Berlin Mataina will kick off the four days festival from 6 pm at the Castle Garden with drinks, music and a fun program before the pink Lederhosen crowd move in the inner castle yard to dance together into the night. DANCE, DANCE, DANCE! One of the highlights of the last couple of years was the party night in an old factory building in the town Techelsberg. After a day in nature and/or the Lake Wörth, the guests of the festival are invited to dance the night away in between old machines, cogs and old furnaces. The PINK Club Night offers two dance floors. Good to know: there will be a free bus shuttle from Monte-Carlo-Platz in Pörtschach to Techelsberg and back from 8.45 pm on.

#4 Lake Boat Cruise Party

• Boarding time: 7:30 pm at Werzers Strand Casino (Beach Casino)
• Starting from 9 pm until approximately 11:45 pm
• 3 different Party Boats cruising around Lake Wörth (Wörthersee)
• Dress Code: Come as you are – sailor men and women are always sexy!
• After-Cruise Party at Lakes Hotel Pörtschach from Midnight on

The event highlight during the Pink Lake Festival already for years is the popular Boat-Cruise Party on the Lake Wörth. Due to the great demand, there will be three boats in total cruising under the flag of shipping company “Wörthersee-Schifffahrt” over the Lake Wörth. The well-known DJs DJ James Munich, DJ Sunshine, and one surprise guest will be on board to make the Lake Wörth itself for one night to become the biggest dance-floor of the Alps. Undoubtedly, this “gay cruise” will be the highlight of the festival for us but also for the LGBTQ+ scene of Europe and the Alps… Disembarkment will take place at Landspitz at Pörtschach.

Gay Travel Alps: Good to know!

Austria is one of the most famous countries in the Alps. The southern state Carinthia is well known for its sunny and warm weather in summer and for its various lakes that warm up during summertime. Additional to the Pink Lake Festival in Summer, Austria is hosting one of the 13 Gay Ski Weeks worldwide at Ski Resort Sölden. In 2017, we attended our first gay ski week in the Rocky Mountains in Jasper and in 2018 and 2019 the Gay Ski Week in Whistler, Western Canada.
