[edgtf_dropcaps type=”normal” color=”#3f6557″ background_color=””]S[/edgtf_dropcaps]leeping in a Slumber Wine Barrel Taufsteinhütte Central Germany – We have to admit, it was a very special experience to sleep in a wine barrel in the middle of a winter wonderland in the German state Hesse. During our Winter Road Trip from Frankfurt am Main to Nature Park Hoher Vogelsberg we spent a night in the gay-friendly hotel “Slumber Wine Barrel” village at Taufsteinhhütte in the middle of the forest (German: Schlummer Wein Fässer an der Taufsteinhütte). The view over the “Adventure Mountain Peak” Hoherodskopf with its huge landmark the radio tower covered in ice and snow was stunning.

Inside the wine barrel, we felt like two hobbits in love sitting in their cozy burrow warmed up by a heater system. The newly built sauna barrel as part of the 10 wine barrel village was perfect for the weather conditions. Just make your reservation for a private session and you will be warmed up after a day in cold nature on the chute with an additional unique view over the forest around the Vogelsberg. A delicious traditional dinner and a substantial breakfast the next morning completed our extraordinary gay-friendly accommodation experience. Enjoy our review of our “Slumber Wine Barrel” stay through a couple of men‘s eyes!

Slumber Wine Barrel Taufsteinhütte Central Germany

All ten so-called “Slumber-Wine Barrels” are located on a wide meadow of the Taufsteinhütte with a great view over the mountain range Vogelsberg. The barrels are 2.75 meters in lengths, 2.1 m wide and approximately 2.05 m in height. The wine houses are lovely equipped with one double bed or two singles beds, two seats with a small table and a small private terrace. The modern and clean sanitary installations including toilets are in separated toilet-barrels. Bed stuff, breakfast and from the second night on even dinner is included in the price. If you are traveling by car, you can use the parking spots around the main building.

New Sauna Wine Barrel Experience

Temperatures below zero and a winter wonderland outside, what better way to warm up and enjoy the surrounding nature of having a two hours sauna private wine barrel sauna session. To cool down, we just needed to step outside the wooden barrel in the snow enjoying the view over the 763,8 m high mountain peak Hoherodskopf. In between the sauna sessions, we had a tasty cup of freshly made tea and coffee in the small, cozy, and beautifully decorated tea house next to the sauna barrel. Do you like sauna too?

Culinary highlights & traditional fare at Restaurant Taufsteinhütte

After arriving at the Taufsteinhūtte and checking in at our Wine Barrel Number 10, we started our stay with a traditional dinner with a good German beer. The included substantial breakfast with fresh bread, fruits, cereals with yogurt and coffee as well as cheese and cold cuts the next morning was a great start to the day. A good base for a day outside in nature.

Sleeping in a Wine Barrel at Nature Park Hoher Vogelsberg

The adventure mountain Hoherodskopf (763 meters) as the second highest mountain in the region is full of surprises and opportunities to explore the Central German flora and fauna. Skiing, sledding, cross skiing in Winter and adventures in a climbing forest, a canopy walkway, minigolf and gliding in Summertime are great reasons to visit this part of the German state Hessia (Hesse). We like it to hike through the thick forest and get lost in the view over the skyline of Frankfurt, far far away. After our Winter Road Trip from Frankfurt to Nature Park Hoher Vogelsberg, we cannot wait to be here in Summertime again.

Good to know:
Don’t worry about getting too cold in Winter. We stayed for a night in the slumber wine barrels at Taufsteinhütte with half a meter snow and minus 10 degrees Celsius. Cooling down after visiting the sauna was amazing walking around through the fresh powder snow.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/2″][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][vc_column_text][/vc_column_text][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][vc_empty_space height=”50px”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/3″][vc_column_text]
