Prince Charming Gay Cruise: Island Hopping in Croatia
Who would have known that we would go on a gay cruise this summer? But when we got the opportunity to jump on a private boutique ship cruising around some of the most beautiful Croatian islands, we simply couldn’t resist. We always wondered how it would be to go on a private, much more intimate gay cruise adventure instead of a big cruise ship trip with thousands of gay men on it, which was fun on a totally different level.
Of course, all safety and hygiene measurements for the 19 cabins will be in place when we start from Split making our way south to Dubrovnik and back to Split. The first edition of this so-called pop-up cruise took place mid-July. We followed along being super excited about the first experiences on their way cruising around the coast of Croatia. To be honest, we are getting more excited every day. Good news: There are still cabins available on the MS AMBASSADOR for the second edition this September! We hope you will join us Couple of Men on our first Prince Charming Gay Cruise around the Croatian Adria this September.
49m Boutique Cruise Ship with 19 Cabins
Croatia is a popular destination for European travelers particularly known for its turquoise, crystal clear water of the Adria, nearly perfect weather throughout the summer, and delicious Mediterranean cuisine. Easily accessible by plane or by car it is also less pricy than Mediterranean countries like Italy with comparable fascinating architecture. Karl’s family discovered the Balkan state at the end of the 90ies spending several summers around Split, Zadar, and Primošten. You can imagine how excited he is to go back again, this time with Daan together.
Itinerary of the Prince Charming Gay Cruise in Croatia
Our favorite airline KLM Royal Dutch Airlines offers flights from €99* to Split and €149* to Zagreb. A special tip for German LGBTQ+ travelers: SkyTeam member KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with their modern fleet brings you comfortably and quickly from 10 German airports via Amsterdam-Schiphol to over 160 destinations around the globe. *subject to availability / last check: July 2020
Day 1: Split
We are planning to explore Split and the old-town during walks along the famous Riva of Split. If you like, you can explore the exciting nightlife of the city of Split and in the in-locations of the city, such as experience an unforgettable night at the bar ‘Hemmingway’. The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight.
Day 2: Korcula
The Prince Charming Cruise leaves Split for Korcula at 8 a.m. at the latest. The sun deck and whirlpool are ready and the right drink is available at the bar. During our first trip, we will pass beautiful Croatian landscapes with a stop for a good swim in the turquoise blue waters of the Adria. The plan is to arrive in Korcula in the late afternoon, at a time when it is not so hot anymore. Here we will stroll along the harbor promenade, enjoy a sundowner in a cafe and take a closer look at the culture of the city. Numerous restaurants and bars invite you to stop and have dinner before returning to the gay cruise ship. The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight.
Day 3: Dubrovnik
In the morning we continue south and reaching Dubrovnik at noon. The best way to use the day is to get to know the vibrant Croatian port city on a walk through the historic city center or to take the gondola up to the local mountain and enjoy the best view of the city. We’ve heard only the best of it! The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight.
Day 4: Island of Mljet
In the morning we will leave Dubrovnik behind. Our destination of the day: The island of Mljet – also called “Odysseus Island” – with the destination Pomena in the north. From there, we will have time to explore the Mljet National Park visiting the “island within the island” by renting a bike. Although it is optional and the park entry will cost a fee, we love nature and biking so we will make sure to explore the island sorrowly. Good to know: On the way to Mljet, the cruise ship is planning to stop in a bay for a swim – Splish-Splash time! Today, we will have to make sure to be back on board on time: It’s time for the captain’s dinner on the ship! The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight.
Day 5: Hvar
We set sail in the morning. After a stop for swimming and lunch on board, we will pass some of the most idyllic Croatian bays on our way towards Hvar, the “sunny island of Croatia”. The trend island can do both: Quiet, tranquil, and with a scent of lavender in the air or celebrity density and jet set. Hvar is one of the most attractive and popular places for tourists in Croatia and a hot spot of the international jet-set – in summer the harbor is full of yachts! The world-famous travel magazine Traveler chose the island of Hvar among the 10 most beautiful islands in the world and the New York Times ranked Hvar 11th in the “Elite Top Destinations in the World” section. In addition to culture and cuisine, the island’s nightlife, in particular, usually has something for party fans to offer. We will check Hvar’s nightlife depending on the current situation, of course. The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight.
Day 6: Bol – Trogir
With a wake-up coffee in our hands, we will be on the way to another highlight of the Croatian coast: the island of Bol! The island is known for its beaches, one of which is particularly striking: Zlatni Rat Beach or Golden Cape is a pointed sandbar that looks spectacular. Our yacht will drop us off in the port of the city of Bol, where we will have time for a walk in the picturesque town, a drink on the promenade, or cooling off in the sea. In the afternoon we head towards Trogir where we will have time to explore the old town known for its mixture of Renaissance, Baroque and Romanesque architecture. In the evening, the restaurants and taverns seduce you in the historic ambiance of the old town and on the lively waterfront with traditional Mediterranean cuisine and excellent wines. The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight.
Day 7: Split
Our ship sets off for Split in the morning. Lunch will be served on board again and diving into the cool water will not be neglected either. We will be able to decide whether we want to end the trip relaxed on board the ship or rather see more of Split. Split has a lot to offer. The boutique ship will stay in the harbor overnight, so we can always get back on the boat at any time.
Day 8: Departing the Cruise Ship in Split
On our last day, we have to get up quite early having breakfast with a view over the port of Split. Following our experiences on our past gay cruises, we will definitely exchange numbers with new acquaintances and start planning our next Prince Charming cruise adventure. Actually, our plan is to add some extra days north of Split in Primošten to our itinerary. Karl is planning to show Daan the region maybe even with a day trip to Plitvice Lakes National Park.
RuPaul! live on stage, Lady T-Dance Party and the best of the Canary Islands: In the past couple of years, we joined three European Gay Cruises exploring the western Mediterranean Sea and Spain departing from Barcelona and Lisboa. That’s special about the Gay Men Only Cruise
Ending the summer on the Croatian Adriatic… on a luxury, boutique motor-yacht constructed in 2019. Obviously, we did a little research about our floating home for eight days. The MS Ambassador is boasting state of the art equipment and amenities featuring highlights such as a salon-style restaurant on the upper deck with a stylish lounge and bar; a sun deck, perfect to relax on with sunbeds and the Elegance Rooftop Jacuzzi; a large swimming platform for easy access into crystal blue waters and more.
The Prince Charming Gay Cruise package includes daily breakfast buffet, daily lunch (fixed menu) on board, fresh fruits daily, daily afternoon tea/coffee with cakes/biscuits, a welcome dinner, and a captain’s dinner on the ship as well as water supplies on the ship. And we are looking forward to the promising crew onboard offering daily cabin service, bath towels, and free WiFi on the ship – we will make sure to share all the highlights with you. Offshore, the city tours in Split & Dubrovnik are included as well. Besides the spectacular destinations and tours on land along our route, the Prince Charming program onboard won’t let us get bored either. Exciting!
